The food security initiative aims to enhance food security in ASEAN through sustainable production, improved information systems, and the identification of nutrition-enhancing agricultural mechanisms.
The initiative is based on the four dimensions of food security identified by the FAO: Food Availability, Access, Utilization, and Stability.
To achieve the goal of food security, ASEAN-BAC 2023 creates a single narrative that includes commodity profiling, commodity balance sheet, key success factors & roadmap, and key policies to address food security.
The single narrative approach enables ASEAN members to customize policies and strategies to address their unique challenges.
Strategic policies to strengthen food security include:
Emergency/shortage relief arrangements
Promoting conducive food market and trade
Strengthening integrated food security information systems
Promoting sustainable food production
Encouraging greater investments in food and agri-based industries, Identifying and addressing emerging issues related to food security
The Inclusive Closed-Loop Model has been chosen as the legacy program to empower MSMEs and farmers with finance, knowledge, technology, and market access to support these initiatives.
